A basic foundation in the theory and practice of gongfu cha, a form of social etiquette with an underlying basis in internal cultivation. Tea brewing and appreciation will be taught as a way to refine the senses, cultivate inner clarity, and extend that awareness as an act of service to others. A critical examination of tea through the language of Chinese medicine will reveal tea culture to be not only a tacit expression of the Chinese worldview, but one that aspires to universality – an inclusive path to physical, social, and spiritual well-being predicated upon harmony between nature and humanity.

Over the three days of this 9 CE unit course, we will brew several teas, included in the course fee. Please register promptly so as to ensure sufficient arrival time for your tea packet. Full syllabus and reader provided upon registration. Course runs 11am-2pm Fri-Sun.

Trained in ecological and medical anthropology, presenter Brian Kirbis spent over a decade apprenticing in artisanal tea production and tea culture in Yunnan, China. He is the founder of Theasophie, a tea organization dedicated to transmitting the story of tea as a nature-culture symbiotic relationship crucial to ecological sustainability, social harmony and the evolution of consciousness.
